Leveraging his extensive Claims Attorney and Underwriting experience, Michael founded MGW in 1993 to offer the legal and design communities the strategic competence, market access, and risk management counsel then unavailable to those industries when purchasing professional liability coverage.  With that initial objective, MGW has now become one of the largest and most highly skilled professional liability insurance specialty brokerages in the Chicago-area, with 4 unique practice areas in Crisis Management, Risk Mitigation, Strategic Planning, and Coverage Advocacy.
 

 

Michael’s career has included Claims Attorney, Manager-Errors & Omissions Division, then Assistant Vice-President at one of the largest professional liability underwriters for law firms, architects, and engineers in the United States (Shand-Morahan & Company).   He also worked in London at a Lloyd’s brokerage (C.J. Coleman), managing Lloyd’s underwriters and European insurers.   As Senior Vice-President at Professional Practice Insurance Brokers, Inc.,  Michael directed all insurance and risk management operations in Chicago and the greater Midwest region.

 

Michael is a frequent speaker at legal, architectural, and engineering conferences, including those of the American Bar Association, American Institute of Architects, National Forum on Legal Malpractice, Association of Construction Owners, Professional Liability Underwriting Society, National Association of Professional Engineers, and Construction Law Superconference.  He has published widely across professional journals on topics including Insurance Coverage for Defective Construction and Improving Internal Business Processes Through Technology.  Michael belongs to the Illinois and Federal Bar Association, Professional Liability Underwriting Society, American Counsel of Engineering Companies, Association of Licensed Architects, American Institute of Architects, a/e ProNet, and Northbrook, IL Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Michael earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, received his B.A. from Northern Illinois University, and completed the International Law Program at Exeter University, England.
